Using Shoebox to Enter Tax Information

If you have a Shoebox or folder full of tax documents and receipts that you want to enter for your tax return, use the Shoebox feature to locate the appropriate tax form or worksheet for each piece of information.

To find the correct location for a piece of information:

  1. In the first list box, select the source of the document.

The second list box displays a list of possible documents or information from that source.

  1. In the second list box, select a document or type of information.

In a few cases, the H&R Block software displays more choices in the third list box to clarify which document you have.

For example, if you select "Receipts or checkbook" as the source, and "Meals and entertainment" as the information, the program still has to find out whether the receipt applies to you as an employee, the owner of a business, a farmer, or a landlord. The circumstances determine where the information belongs.

  1. If necessary, select the appropriate situation from the third list box.

  2. Click the Go There button to jump to the appropriate form and line.

The cursor is positioned in the entry field where you should begin entering the information.
