Correcting Errors

When you run Error Check, the H&R Block tax software displays a summary of the number of errors and data verifications for your return.

To fix the errors sequentially:

  1. Click the Continue button.

The program displays the first error, a description of the error, and the name of the form on which it is located. The actual form is displayed in the bottom pane of the Error Check window and the cursor is placed in the field with the problem. To display the whole form, click the Whole Form button. To close the form and return to the Error Check window, click the Hide Form button at the top of the window.

  1. Correct the error and press Enter.

  2. Click Next to go to the next error and fix it.

  3. Continue clicking Next until you have corrected all errors. Once you have corrected the errors, the program continues sequentially through the data verifications listed. See Reviewing Data Verifications. If no data verifications exist, the program reruns Error Check, and the list is updated.

To delete the form with the error:

  1. Click the Delete Form button.

  2. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

The form is deleted and Error Check is run again.

To move back through the errors:

The program moves sequentially back through the list of errors. Once you reach the beginning of the list, Error Check is rerun, and the list is updated.

To view the whole list of errors at once:

To fix a specific error in the list:

  1. Click the Show List button to display the list of errors.

  2. Click the Go To button next to the error you want to correct.

  3. The program displays the form containing the error in the bottom pane of the Error Check window and automatically places the cursor in the field that is causing the problem.

  4. Correct the error and press Enter.

To print the list:

Some error messages prompt you to compare entries on multiple forms. From the Error Check window you can view a different form, if necessary.

To display a different form:

  1. Click the Forms List button in the tool bar of the Error Check window. The program displays the Forms List dialog box which lists all the forms used in the program.

  2. Select the form you want to display from the list.

  3. Click the Open Form button. The program displays the form in the Error Check window.

  4. Click the Close button to close the Forms List dialog box.

The new form does not replace the form shown in the bottom pane of the Error Check window. When you close the new form, the program continues to display the original form associated with the error or data verification.
