Filing a Paper Extension

If you choose to file your extension on paper, the program prints the extension paperwork that you need to file. If you are making a payment with your extension, you simply mail your check along with the paperwork to the appropriate IRS Service Center.

The H&R Block software guides you through the steps for printing and filing your extension:

  1. First, you print and assemble your extension paperwork.

  2. Then, you print copies and create a backup of your federal extension for your records.

  3. Finally, you mail your extension to the IRS.
