The following states require you to electronically file both your state and federal returns together:
Arkansas and Hawaii
The following states allow you to electronically file your state and federal returns together or separately:
Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin
Note: Although the H&R Block software allows you to electronically file your state return and federal return separately, we recommend that you e-file them at the same time. If you choose to e-file them separately, you will have to wait two or three days for an IRS acceptance of your federal return, before you can e-file your state return.
Electronic filing is not available in the New Hampshire and Tennessee state programs.
