State Electronic Filing Exclusions

Some restrictions are placed on the types of tax returns that you can file electronically.

When you go through the File tab Interview and you choose to file your return electronically, we review your return and determine if it qualifies for e-filing. If it doesn't qualify, the program notifies you and lists the reasons why.

The H&R Block software allows up to 3 state resident returns to be e-filed with each federal return that you file. You can e-file part-year resident or nonresident returns only for the states of California, Georgia, Kansas, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New York and North Carolina. Additionally, the program allows the e-filing of part-year returns for Maryland.

Electronic Filing in the H&R Block state program supports only certain forms when filing your state and federal returns together or separately. There also may be a maximum number of each type of form or schedule that you are allowed to file per return.

Just follow the step-by-step guide provided, and we'll help you complete any necessary paperwork, if applicable, to your state's taxing authority.
