An entry can be marked tentative to serve as a reminder for you to review it later; or for an estimated entry that you will need to verify later. For example, if you haven't received the W-2 form from your employer, you might want to enter your estimated income so that you can get a reasonable idea of what your taxes will be. This field's entry will be marked with an asterisk (*); however, marking the field as tentative does not affect the calculations of your taxes. The asterisk appears in the field that you've marked as tentative when you move the cursor out of the field.
Move the cursor to the entry field.
Go to the Edit menu, or right-click and choose Mark Entry Tentative. An asterisk appears in the tentative field when you move to another field.
Move the cursor to the tentative field.
Go to the Edit menu, or right-click and select Unmark Entry Tentative. (The name of this option toggles depending on whether the field is marked tentative.) The asterisk (*) is deleted when you move to another field.
To find all the tentative fields in your tax return, go to the Tools menu and select Error Check. The Error Check window opens. Simply click the Show List button on this window and the program will display the list of error and data verification messages for your return. All entries marked as tentative will be listed in the data verification messages.
