If H&R Block works with your company’s payroll provider, bank, broker, or financial institution, you can use our Smart Import to import your 2010 W-2 and 1099 information directly into your return. All you need to do is tell us which information you want to import and we'll do the rest for you.
Note: You need to be connected to the internet to import your W-2 and 1099 information.
When you reach the Wages (W-2) screen, click the Import W-2 arrow above the list box.
The H&R Block software first checks to make sure you are connected to the internet. If the program finds a connection, it begins searching for the Employer EIN you entered. If the program does not find an internet connection, check to make sure you are connected and then click Try Again. You can also click Cancel to end the process.
Once the H&R Block software finds your payroll provider and determines that your W-2 is available, the Import from Your W-2 Provider screen is displayed. Click the Log In button on this screen.
Note: If your payroll provider is not found, you can still use the Interview to enter the information from your paper W-2.
When prompted, enter your payroll provider account login information, and then click Import. Your account is validated and your W-2 information is imported.
Repeat steps 1 through 4 for any additional W-2s.
You can make changes to your imported W-2 information after you have completed all your imports.
When you reach one of the following 1099 screens, click the applicable Import 1099-(form) arrow above the list box:
Interest Income (1099-INT)
Dividends and Distributions (1099-DIV)
Sale of Stocks and Other Assets (1099-B)
Retirement Income, Rollovers, and Form (1099-Rs)
The H&R Block software opens the Smart Import Wizard and prompts to check your internet connection.
Click the Check My Connection button. If the program does not find an internet connection, check to make sure you are connected and then click Try Again. You can also click Cancel to return to end the process. Once the program finds an internet connection, the H&R Block Smart Import Wizard displays the Import from Financial Institutions screen with a list of supported institutions..
Click on the name of your financial institution from the list box to select it.
Note: If your bank, broker, or financial Institution is not listed, you can still use the Interview to enter the information from your paper 1099 form. You can also click the Let us Know link and enter the name of your financial institution so that we can sign them up for next year.
When prompted, enter your financial institution account login information, and then click Import. Your account is validated and your financial information is imported.
Repeat steps 1 through 5 for any additional 1099 amounts.
You can make changes to your imported 1099 data after you have completed all your imports.
