In versions of Quicken from 2009 and earlier, you must first export regular and capital gains tax information into a Tax Interchange File (.txf) format and then you can import the data into the program.
As you go through the Interview, the data that you import is displayed as brown text. Change anything you need to at that time. You can also view and change the imported information any time by selecting Review Financial Imports from the Reports menu to display the Import Report.
Note: Make sure you create a Tax Schedule Report, NOT a Tax Summary Report.
Go to the Reports menu, select Tax, and then move the cursor to the right and select Tax Schedule. The Create Report dialog appears. If necessary, click Create. Quicken generates the Tax Schedule Report.
Click Export Data.
Select Report to tax export file. Quicken displays the Create Tax Export File dialog box.
