The H&R Block software lets you set a password for your federal and state tax return so only users who know the password can open the tax return file. You must have saved your tax return at least once before you can set a password. You can change your password at any time.
From the File menu, select Password Protection. The Password Protection dialog box appears.
Type a password in the New Password field.
Retype the password in the Confirm Password field.
Click OK.
From the File menu, select Password Protection. The Password Protection dialog box appears.
Type the password you want to change in the Old Password field.
Type a new password in the New Password field.
Retype the new password in the Confirm Password field.
Click OK.
Note: Write down your password and store it in a safe place. There is no way to recover the file if you lose your password. In addition, you cannot load data from a previous tax year's tax file without its password.
