Getting State Programs

How do I get my state program?

Note: If you are running Microsoft Windows Vista™ operating system, you will need administrator privileges to download and install state programs.

If you purchased an H&R Block Federal edition that includes a State program:

  1. Open the H&R Block software.

  2. Click the State tab.

  3. Select your state from the State drop-down list. Make sure you are connected to the internet.

  4. Click the Next button. The program checks to see if your state is available. If it is available, the state program is automatically downloaded and installed.

Note: If your state program is not available, the H&R Block software displays the date that the it should be available. If you would like to receive an email notifying you when the it becomes available, enter your email address.

If you need to purchase your State program:

  1. Open the H&R Block software.

  2. Click the State tab.

  3. Select your state from the State drop-down list. Make sure you are connected to the internet.

  4. Click the Next button.

  5. The program checks to see if your state is available. If it is available, the program displays the Enter State Purchase Information screen.

Note: If your state program is not available, the H&R Block software displays the date that it should be available. If you would like to receive an email notifying you when it becomes available, enter your email address.

  1. On the Enter State Purchase Information screen, enter your billing information and your email address. The program needs your email address to complete the purchase.

  2. Click Next.

  3. Review the information listed on the Purchase State screen to make sure it is correct. Make sure you are connected to the internet.

  4. Click the Purchase button. The program will send you an email which will contain additional order information once you click this button.

Installing State Programs

Even though I've installed my state program, the program does not display a state tab on the Forms Central, Error Check, or Reports window?

H&R Block software does not display a state tab (for example, New York) on these windows until you actually open and start a tax return for the state.

I have downloaded and installed my state program, but there is no icon on my desktop for me to open it. How do I open it?

Once you have downloaded and installed your state program, it becomes part of the H&R Block tax software. To open your state program:

  1. Open the H&R Block software.

  2. Click the State tab.

  3. Double-click on the state name from the list, or select it and click Begin.
