Getting an Update

How do I check for an update to the program?

You must be connected to the internet in order to check for updates and update the H&R Block software.

Note: If you are running Microsoft Windows Vista™ operating system, you will need administrator privileges to download and install updates.

To check for an update:

  1. When you choose to check for an update, the H&R Block Software Manager dialog box is displayed.

  2. If the Software Manager dialog box shows that there is an update available, click Update.

  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the update.

Note: If you are updating your state program, your federal program may be updated at the same time.

Other Update Methods

I'm having problems obtaining an update from within the program. Are there other ways to get an update?

If you're having problems downloading an update using the H&R Block Software Manager and your system's Internet Options' proxy settings is set to "Use automatic configuration script", do the following:

  1. Select Proxy Settings from the Tools menu.

  2. Click the "Use System Automatic Proxy Configuration Script" radio button.

If you still can't download the update after changing this setting, you can get the update directly from our Update Center.

Note: If you are running Microsoft Windows Vista™ operating system, you will need administrator privileges to download and install updates.

Why can't I connect to the Web site?

There could be several reasons for not being able to connect to the Internet site. Check these items and retry connecting.

  1. Make sure you have an Internet service provider (such as America Online®), etc.)

  2. Check your telephone connection. Are your phone jack and cord properly connected? Line noise or bad wiring may cause an unsuccessful connection.

  3. Check your Internet browser (Internet Explorer®, Netscape Navigator®) connection settings.

  4. If you've successfully connected to other Web sites in the past, try again at a later time. There could be a variety of other causes that are out of your control, such as your Internet service provider is down or the Internet is busy.
