Electronic filing is a process that transfers your tax information directly to the IRS computers. Instead of mailing a paper return that slowly makes it way to the IRS, the IRS receives your tax return almost instantly. In addition, electronically filed returns have been proven to contain fewer errors, mainly because the IRS doesn’t need to re-enter your tax information in its system.
Another reason to file electronically is that if you expect to receive a refund, you’ll receive your refund check within 3 weeks. You’ll receive your refund even sooner if you have your refund deposited directly into your bank account. In comparison, if you file a paper return, it usually takes 4 to 8 weeks to receive a refund check.
To file electronically, just click the File tab. Then, choose Electronic Filing. The H&R Block software will check your return to see if it qualifies for electronic filing.
