There are two things you should know about Form 8453:
Do NOT use Form 8453 to file your return unless you are an "electronic return originator", or "ERO" in IRS parlance. If you don't know whether or not you're an ERO, you aren't one -- an ERO is a return preparer the IRS has authorized to file electronic tax returns on behalf of others.
If you are an ERO and want to print and use Form 8453 to transmit a return, make sure you print the graphics version of the form, NOT text. Only the graphics version is approved for filing. (Should you goof and print the text version by mistake, we print a warning at the top of the form.)
Form 8453 will print with a return if the ERO's EFIN is filled in at the top of the form. Be sure and choose the graphics print option, because the text printout is not approved for filing.
