Reviewing Data Verifications

When you run Error Check, the H&R Block software displays a summary of the number of errors and data verifications for your return.

Data verifications include any entries that you may or may not need to fix. For example, entries that you have marked tentative. You don't need to clear all data verification messages, if the information is already correct as entered. Some of these messages are just reminders. Review each message, and then take the appropriate action.

To review data verifications sequentially:

  1. Click the Continue button.

  2. Click Next to scroll through the error messages until you reach the first data verification message.

The form for the first data verification message is displayed in the bottom pane of the Error Check window and the cursor is automatically placed in the field that is causing the message. To display the whole form, click the Whole Form button. To close the form and return to the Error Check window, click the Hide Form button at the top of the form.

  1. If necessary, fix or change the information and press Enter.

  2. Click Next to go to the next data verification message in the list. The program displays the form and automatically places the cursor in the field causing the message.

  3. Continue clicking Next until you have reviewed all data verification messages. Once you click Next after the last message, Error Check is run again and the list is updated.

To delete the form with the data verification message:

  1. Click the Delete Form button.

  2. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

The form is deleted and Error Check is run again.

To move back through the errors and data verifications:

  1. Click the Back button.

The program moves sequentially back through the list of messages. Once you reach the beginning of the list, Error Check is run again, and the list is updated.

To view the whole list of errors and data verifications at once:

To view a specific data verification message in the list:

  1. Click the Show List button to display all the errors and data verifications.

  2. Click the Go To button next to the data verification message you want to review.

  3. The form containing the data verification message is displayed in the bottom pane of the Error Check window and the cursor is automatically placed in the field that is causing the message.

  4. If necessary, fix or change the information and press Enter.

To print the list:

Some data verification messages prompt you to compare entries on multiple forms. From the Error Check window you can view a different form, if necessary.

To display a different form:

  1. Click the Forms List button in the tool bar of the Error Check window. The Forms List dialog box opens with a list of all the forms used in the program.

  2. Select the form you want to display from the list.

  3. Click the Open Form button. The form is displayed in the Error Check window.

  4. Click the Close button to close the Forms List dialog box.

The new form does not replace the form shown in the bottom pane of the Error Check window. When you close the new form, the program continues to display the original form associated with the error or data verification message.
