If either your federal or state return is rejected after e-filing, you can use this report to view a list of all the e-file errors. You will need to correct all errors before you can resubmit your return electronically. A Federal and State tab (if both were rejected) will be displayed. Click on the tab for the return you want to correct.
Note: The report lists the errors encountered in the most recent e-filing, but does not reflect any corrections that you may have already made to your return.
Rejection Code - an alphanumeric code that represents the exact error. The format of this code is ##-XX-##. The two letters identify the return type. For example, FD for federal return, state abbreviation for a state return (MA for Massachusetts, etc.), or XFD for a federal extension. The numbers define the error condition.
Problem - An explanation of the error that caused your return to be rejected.
Solution - Steps you can take to correct the error. If the error has occurred in several places, you will need to correct all instances. Note: Not all errors can be corrected from within the program. In cases where the problem cannot be fixed from using the program, you will be directed to file your return on paper.
For some errors, a Go To Form button will be displayed. You can click on this button to go to the form with the error and fix it. The form opens and moves the cursor to the line with the error. After you have corrected the error, click the Close button at the top of the form to close it.
To print a copy of the report, click the Print button on the E-File Rejection Report window.
