After 24 hours from transmitting your return, you can check the status of your return. However, status information may not be available until 4 days have passed.
Open the H&R Block software program.
Click the Check Status link listed next to the return file in the list box labeled Continue with a Saved 2009 Return. The program checks the status of your return and displays the information on the Return Status screen.
Note: The Check Status link only displays if you have e-filed the return.
If both your Federal and State returns are accepted, your Declaration Control Number (DCN) is displayed. Write down this number and keep it with your records. The H&R Block software also confirms (on the screen or in a checklist) your current year's adjusted gross income (AGI) amount and your personal identification number (PIN), and gives you an opportunity to print the information. Make sure you print and keep a copy of this information. You will need your AGI amount and PIN to sign your return next year.
If either your Federal or State return is rejected, H&R Block will notify you and give you the opportunity to correct your errors. You can use the E-File Rejection Report to correct your errors. It outlines why your return was rejected and what you can do to fix the errors.
After you fix the errors, you may be eligible to resubmit your return electronically. If your federal and state returns were e-filed together, and your federal return is rejected, your state return does not get processed. You must fix the errors on your federal return and then resubmit both your federal and state returns again. You will not be charged for resubmitting a rejected return.
You can also choose to print and mail your return. Simply select the Paper button on the Return Rejected screen and follow the instructions for printing and mailing a paper return.
