Correcting a Rejected Return

If you check the status of your return and it is rejected, you can use the E-File Rejection Report to view a list of all the e-file errors. You should correct all errors before resubmitting your return electronically. Note: The report lists the errors encountered in the most recent e-filing, but does not reflect any corrections that you may have already made to your return.

After you fix the errors, you may be eligible to resubmit your return electronically. If your federal and state returns were e-filed together, and your federal return is rejected, your state return does not get processed. You must fix the errors on your federal return and then resubmit both your federal and state returns again. You will not be charged for resubmitting a rejected return.

You can also choose to print and mail your return. Simply click the Re-file Return button on the E-file Rejection Report window.  This will bring you to the Electronic Filing options screen. Choose File standard paper forms and follow the instructions for printing and mailing your tax return.
